Pre-Historic Age-Palaeolithic age or Stone age

                                            Pre-Historic Age

The life of the primitive man was not better than that of savages. But gradually,he began to progress and learnt much by experience. These different stages of man's progress towards civilization are chiefly known as:

1-Palaeolithic Age
2-Mesolithic Age
3-Neolithic Age
4-Copper and Bronze Age
5-Iron Age

1-Palaeolithic Age-Historians hold divergent opinions the origin of man. Some scholars mention ,first of all,the existence of man traced in south India. The early man originated ,first of all between Sindhu (Indus) and Jhelum river in the province of Punjab at Jammu. Punjab, Rajputana,Gujarat Madhya Pradesh , Karnataka,Mysore,Bihar, Assam, Bengal and South India are specilly regarded the centres of early stone age.
Men belonging to Palaeolithic Age were entierly barbarous. They used to lead a very hard life and wander here and there in the jungles in search of of food.Neither they knew the art of agriculture nor they were acquainted with fire, always fighting with the fierce animals in the forest, some pebble tools were made by him. These stone weapons were crude, yet sharp. The tools included crude hand axes, cleavers, scrapers, and flakes.Hand axes were made of quatzite stone.
The primitive men had no idea of agriculture. They lived on the flesh of the hunted animals and such wild fruits as were available in the forests.
People were ignorant of the use of cloth. They generally used to wear no cloth, but with the passage of time they began to cover their bodies with the skin of animals or the bark of trees.
The primitive men were innocent of the art of making dwelling houses. They never made their permanent dwelling places as they often roamed far and wide in search of food. They used to live in caves or on the banks of rivers and lakes.Later on, they began to make huts to live in.
They did not know how to dispose of the dead . The dead ones were left on the spot, becoming a prey to wild animals and birds . Dr. Tripathi has observed :
"Man had not learnt as yet to dispose of his dead with proper funeral rites. To dig a grave or build a tomb was yet very remote".
The primitive men were ignorant of any social or political. But with the passage of time and for fear of wild animals, they began to live in groups.
